Jesus reached out His hand & caught him

So I came across this verse when I was doing my Jesus Calling devotional. I have to admit that I got really behind on it because my week last week was beyond stressful, but I hate missing them so I usually try and read two to three a day so that I can catch up! This one is from February 8th, so not too long ago.

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Matthew 14:28-33

This verse is so powerful but for some reason I have always just kinda skipped over it. It is a perfect representation of our daily struggle to constantly go towards Jesus, no matter what is going on around us. To me there are three types of people, the water walkers, the wind fearers, or the boat huggers. If you are a water walker, you constantly strive to go towards Jesus. You have no fear of earthly things because you know that your Father in Heaven is watching over you. If you are a wind fearer, you strive to go towards Jesus, but a majority of the time something happens that makes you doubt your decision to walk towards Him. The “wind” in your life could be anything that makes you fear what is ahead of you. If you are a boat hugger, you are often too scared to leave your “boat” and walk towards Jesus. Your “boat” could be security in your money, your friends, or just your current life situation. You feel too comfortable where you are at and leaving that comfort zone for Jesus is way too scary.

“Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him”
This verse is SO powerful. Jesus reached out his hand even though Peter doubted him, how amazing is that? What you have to realize, no matter where you are in life right now is that no matter how far you may fall from the path of walking toward Him, Jesus will always be there to grab your hand and lead you in the right direction. Although there will always be something that is causing problems in your life, do not make them your focus. Instead focus on Jesus and rest in His peace. If you ever feel yourself sinking in an ocean of problems, all you have to do is say “Help me, Jesus!” and just like He did with Peter, He will reach out and grab your hand, drawing you back to Him.

So my challenge for you this week is to discover if you are a water walker, wind feared, or boat hugger. Strive to become a water walker and constantly seek Jesus in whatever you are doing. Live like Peter and step out of the boat, not afraid of the trials ahead.

I hope you have a wonderful week!
God Bless!
